We received feedback from a family member of a child on the autism spectrum gray zone.

“I think it might be due to changes in my environment, but I also wonder if my mental strength has grown a little?” they replied.

Q1. What made you decide to undergo intestinal flora transplantation at our institute?

He has mild autism spectrum disorder, with picky eating, constipation, tiring easily, and mental health issues making school life difficult.
After entering middle school, I started skipping school due to relationship issues. Learning that transplantation is more likely to be effective when done at a younger age helped me make my decision.

Q2. How have your symptoms changed after the transplant?

Originally, it was mild, so no major changes were observed.
However, after the summer break one year, he couldn’t join his class anymore. Maybe it’s because he changed grades three months after the transplant? But he’s in class now and doing his best.
It might be due to the change in environment, but I think his mental strength might have grown a little?

Q3. In order to maintain the intestinal bacteria that have become your friends through transplantation, please tell us about any lifestyle habits or ways of thinking that you are trying to maintain after the transplantation.

I’ve come to prefer avoiding antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, and I’m mindful about consuming foods rich in dietary fiber.

Q4. Please give a few words to those who are going to have a transplant or those who are not sure if they want to have a transplant.

There was no effective treatment for autism spectrum disorder, but I think transplantation could be one option. While the cost is high, I think it’s worth considering for your child’s long-term future. I wonder if it’s about the same price as dental braces?
Thinking about my child’s future, I felt it might be worth investing in something that could make even a small difference for their future.

Q5. Please give a message to the donor who provided the stool for the transplant.

Thanks to the tremendous cooperation of our donors, this is made possible, and we are truly grateful.
