Mr. K has been suffering from autistic spectrum disorder such as picky eating, difficulty in communication, obsession, temper tantrums, selective gagging, and weak trunk.
They often had trouble communicating because they could not talk or greet/express their intentions when outside in unfamiliar places.

We asked Mr. K’s family about the changes that occurred after the transplant.

Q1. What changes have you seen in your child through all six sessions of the intestinal microflora transplant (hereafter referred to as FMT)?

I feel that the growth angle has increased. There has also been a significant improvement in emotional control. His tantrums have also decreased dramatically. He is now able to sleep at night, which used to be very difficult for him and his family.

Q2. Have you noticed any changes in your daily life in terms of your senses? For example, have you noticed any changes in terms of eating or hearing?

The variety of foods he can eat has increased a little. He has a sensitive sense of taste and is particular about food, but this was not a major problem to begin with and was within the scope of what we could handle. As a parent, I wanted to improve his eating habits the most and had high expectations for him, but I did not see such a big change.

Q3. Have you noticed any changes in your child’s stools? And have you noticed any connection between the changes and other symptoms?

The condition of the stools improved considerably for a time. However, from March to April, there was a slight disturbance. I think this is due to environmental changes such as the start of elementary school. I remember that last year was also rough at the same time. Of course there are fluctuations, but I feel that there is a close relationship between the condition of the stool and the emotional aspect.

Q4. Did you find it difficult to go to the hospital to participate in the clinical study?

There was definitely a hurdle in getting to the hospital. It was not a short bike ride away, so there was a burden. Also, for the children, there was a perception that they would have a bad day if they went, so we had to be creative in preparing rewards for going.

Although my child was reluctant to have the transplant until the very end, I was glad that there were no events that would have sent him to the hospital, such as high fever or serious injury, as I had feared. We managed to finish the procedure without incident.
