Understanding How FMT Is Provided to International Patients

FMT for international patients is not provided as a standalone medical procedure.

Instead, it is delivered as part of a comprehensive treatment process that begins prior to arrival in Japan and continues throughout the treatment period and follow-up phase.

FMT is provided as free medical care and is not covered by public health insurance in Japan.

All FMT procedures are performed using a standardized protocol in which bacterial solutions are prepared with Hydrogen NanoGAS® wate

For international patients, this standardized medical procedure is delivered within a structured coordination process that includes pre-arrival preparation, communication, and treatment planning.

Why the Process for International Patients Is Structurally Different

The process for international patients differs structurally from that for patients residing in Japan.

For patients in Japan, treatment can typically begin directly at a medical institution, with communication and coordination conducted locally in Japanese.

For international patients, however, it is necessary to review medical information and align treatment plans in advance of arrival.

This difference does not arise from additional services, but from the prerequisites required to ensure the safe and appropriate delivery of care.

Accordingly, a separate pre-treatment process has been established for international patients, taking into account differences in language, medical background, and care coordination requirements.

International Patient Coordination and Preparation

A structured preparation and coordination process is conducted prior to arrival in Japan.

This process includes the following steps, carried out in sequence:

– Review and verification of prior medical information
– Physician assessment and treatment planning
– Online consultations with a physician
– Coordination of travel timing and treatment schedule
– Arrangement of interpretation and communication support

These steps are intended to ensure that treatment can proceed without delay upon arrival in Japan.

The coordination process applies to each treatment course, regardless of the number of transplant sessions.

How This Affects the Overall Cost

The treatment pathway for international patients includes multiple stages that take place both before and after arrival in Japan.

These stages are necessary to ensure that medical evaluation, communication, and treatment planning are appropriately aligned in advance.

For this reason, the total cost is not determined by medical procedures alone, but reflects the overall treatment process required for international patients.

How This Process Is Positioned Within Your Treatment

For international patients, treatment includes a structured coordination and preparation process prior to the first visit to Japan.

**This process is positioned as part of the overall treatment pathway, rather than a separate or optional component.**

It ensures that medical information, communication, and treatment planning are appropriately aligned before treatment begins.

This process applies to each treatment course and is required for patients traveling from overseas.

What Is Included

The pre-transplant support fee include the following services:

  • One online meeting with a dedicated concierge
  • E-mail inquiries to the concierge until the patient has a face-to-face consultation with a physician
  • Three  online consultations with a physician
  • One face-to-face consultation with a physician
  • Two Gut microbiota tests
  • Interpretation services
(including one meeting and up to three consultation sessions)

These services are provided to support communication, coordination, and preparation prior to the start of FMT treatment.

These components are required to ensure that medical information, treatment planning, and communication are properly aligned before treatment begins.

What Is Not Included

The following items are not included in the pre-transplant support fee:

  • Medical examinations, tests, treatments, or physical examinations other than the flora balance test
  • Nutritional guidance or additional counseling services
  • Travel, transportation, accommodation, or sightseeing expenses
  • Daily living expenses during the stay in Japan
  • Additional interpretation services beyond the included scope, if required

If required, travel-related arrangements may be provided as a separate paid option.

Medical fees prescribed by each affiliated medical institution are charged separately and must be paid directly to the medical institution on the day of consultation or treatment.

These items are managed separately as they are not part of the medical coordination or treatment process.

Payment, Cancellation, and Important Notes

Payment for fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) services is made according to the treatment plan and schedule determined after consultation with the physician.

Medical fees charged by affiliated medical institutions are paid directly to the medical institution on the day of consultation or treatment.

Payment methods may vary depending on the medical institution.

Please note that fees related to pre-transplant support and coordination are managed separately from medical fees.

If you decide to cancel a meeting, consultation, or treatment during the course of the program, fees will be refunded in accordance with the applicable cancellation policy.

Details of the applicable cancellation policy will be provided to each patient individually and explained as part of the consent process prior to proceeding with treatment.

How Appointments Are Arranged for International Patients

For international patients, appointments are arranged through designated coordination channels.

There are two primary pathways:

– Coordination through Shinbiosis Corporation
– Coordination through authorized medical agents in the patient’s country or region

Direct appointment booking with affiliated medical institutions by international patients is not assumed within this process.

This structure is designed to ensure that medical information, communication, and treatment planning are properly coordinated in advance.

By arranging appointments through these channels, all necessary preparation can be completed prior to the first in-person consultation in Japan.

This approach helps ensure that treatment can proceed safely and efficiently upon arrival.

Before You Compare Prices

When checking information online, you may come across a variety of listed prices.

Directly comparing treatment prices for domestic residents with those for international residents may not accurately reflect the structure of the care provided.

It is important to understand that pricing structures may reflect differences in the treatment process.

The programs featured on this page are designed for international patients and encompass the entire treatment process.

Therefore, price comparisons based solely on individual medical procedures may not accurately reflect the actual scope of services provided.
