►Opening remarks

First, Dr. Zen Tanaka, Representative Director and Conference Chair, gave his greetings.
He also reported the start of the clinical research for children with autism spectrum disorder that began in May of this year, and thanked the participants for their cooperation.

►Gut bacteria and cancer
The morning session started with a case report on “Intestinal Bacteria and Cancer” by Dr. Zen Tanaka. The chairperson was Dr. Masayuki Asaueholm (President, LAGOM Life Clinic Tateshina).

Dr. Tanaka promotes integrative medicine that makes full use of molecular nutrition, immunology, dentistry, and the oral environment, with a focus on advanced cancer treatment, and practices medicine with a mind to contribute to the development of preventive medicine.

►Case Reports
Next was a case report on food intolerance. The chairperson was Dr. Masahiko Shirotani, Director of Luke’s Ashiya Clinic.

The KAWAIKO Clinic provides patient-centered medical care, focusing first and foremost on disease prevention and nutritional treatment for cases that would be difficult to improve with insurance. The clinic also provides detailed support for the transplantation of intestinal flora for patients with autism spectrum disorder and other disorders, including the use of diaries kept by patients after the transplantation.

The owner of Le Clos, a French restaurant established 23 years ago, Chef Kuroiwa’s wish was to create a society where people with and without disabilities can be happy together with everyone. The dishes and sweets made by the collaboration of professional chefs and users called “cast members”. He shared the joy of working with the sparkling cast members.
The booth was a great success, selling “chocolate chip cookies” and “caramel almond cookies” which were handmade by the cast members, one by one, with all their heart and soul.

►Keynote Speech
The afternoon session began with a keynote lecture on ASD. The chairpersons were Dr. Zen Tanaka, Director of Tanaka Clinic of the Representative Director, Jinzenkai Medical Corporation, and Dr. Masahiko Shirotani, Director of Luke’s Ashiya Clinic of the Executive Director.
Dr. Tatsuya Koeda (Vice President, National Center for Child Health and Development, Director of the Department of Mental Health, Professor Emeritus, Tottori University)
Dr. Koeda, who actually deals with various patients from his position as a pediatric neurologist, gave an online lecture. He explained various symptoms of children with autism spectrum disorder from the viewpoint of brain science.

►ASD CLINICAL STUDY INTERIM REPORT
Next, Dr. Masahiko Shirotani chaired the interim report on the ASD clinical study, which was presented by Dr. Yuichi Kawai, Director of the board member Medical Corporation YUAKAI Cute Internal Medicine Clinic.

In May of this year, a clinical study for autism spectrum disorder was initiated for children between the ages of 5 and 12. We presented the background of how the clinical study began and an interim report on the clinical study.

“AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS (ASD) AND THE POTENTIAL FOR INTESTINAL FLORA TRANSPLANTATION.”

The possibility of novel FMT was discussed by six doctors who are actually involved in transplantation. They introduced testimonials from parents of children with ASD participating in clinical studies, and the teachers talked about their innovations during the transplantation process and actual medical examinations. Finally, we also heard from a parent from Nagoya who participated in the clinical study (Ms. Ikuko Kojima, representative of iStep, a community for mothers and fathers of children with disabilities).
